City Circuit Champions!
Mock Trial Heads to Elite 8

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: March 16, 2012

Baltimore, MD—Friends’ Mock Trial team on March 15 faced the undefeated Gilman Greyhounds for the City Circuit Championship. In recent memory, the Friends School Quakers have not fared well against the Gilman Greyhounds in contests involving brawn.  But Mock Trial is decided on wits, oratory, and dramatic flair and our jurists brought their “A” game. The two scoring judges awarded nothing but 4’s and 5’s on the 5- point scale: Jordan Hartman ’14 and Rebecca Cerasoli ’13 gave solid performances on the medical front. Rookies Maddy Shay and Katrina Keegan each earned 5’s from both judges.  If this were basketball, our fans might have been chanting “She’s a freshman!” but the decorum of the courtroom strictly prohibits such displays of enthusiasm.  Seniors Sam Keamy-Minor and Abby Preston sealed the deal with their skilled oratory.  Their opening and closing arguments were both awarded 5’s by each judge.  In the end, the final tally was Friends 101 – Gilman 98.  This marks the fourth year in a row that the Quakes have captured the City Circuit Championship.  It’s on to the Elite 8 of the State of Maryland, which will happen on either April 11th or April 12th to be determined after the other circuits have named their champions. Stay tuned!
